During our morning meeting, we often read poems and sing songs together. Doing so builds community and helps with fluency, expression, sight word recognition and more. I often choose poems and songs which are connected to what we are learning or have a message related to kindness, peace, etc.
Once I've introduced new poems/songs, students take turns leading by pointing at the words and turning the pages.
