Dissecting Owl Pellets
On Monday we dissected owl pellets: After an owl eats the small rodents, birds, and bugs that are a part of its nightly diet, its stomach cannot digest the fur, bones, teeth, feathers, and insect shells from that food. These “extra” parts are formed into a tight PELLET inside the owl and are then are later SPIT UP by the owl.
The looks on the kids' faces while opening the containers that held the pellets was priceless! Click on this link to see for yourself: https://youtu.be/YiCxdsXa6Ow
We were so lucky to have Mrs. Clanton there to help us! After getting past the initial shock of touching the pellets, students realized that dissecting the pellets and finding out what kind of prey it had eaten was pretty cool.
That was so fun dissecting those owl pellets! and finding those bones!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDear class,
